Placement Opportunities

Placement hours alongside studying for the 2024/2025 academic year

We are passionate about developing future therapists and providing opportunities. Due to us having two full time sandwich year students, we are unable to offer adhoc placement hours. However, we are currently accepting applications to assist with a team setting on Wednesday afternoons working with high-level student track and fried and cross country athletes. You will become a big part of the team, assisting with weekly sessions and the potential to support at their Varsity track and field fixtures.

What the placement will involve?

We are looking for two student therapists to regularly assist with sports massage and injury advice (within the scope of their current education) in a friendly and supervised environment.

When?

Wednesday afternoons during term time (Oct-Dec & Jan-May)

Where?

Cambridge United Football Stadium clinic

You will be assisting with the Cambridge University Athletics and Cross Country teams.

There will also be the opportunity to join our monthly clinic CPD to the successful applicants.

Criteria

  • Currently undertaking a BSc (Hons) or MSc in Sports Therapy / Sports Rehab / Physiotherapy or equivalent
  • Student member of the SST / CSP
  • A positive attitude that is keen to learn and improve as a therapist
  • A reflective attitude and not afraid to ask questions

Currently recruiting full time sandwich year student(s) for the 2025/26 academic year

Thirteen students have undertaken placement years with us at F.A.S.T… Will you be our 14th?

We prioritise students looking to complete a full year placement between Level 5 and 6 of their degree programme due to the vast progression which is possible throughout this time. The opportunity allows the student therapists to develop their knowledge and skills, and to follow through longer term management plans. It is always rewarding to see the continued success of our former student therapists.

Subsequent roles secured

  • Head of Medical in the English Football League
  • Clinic owners both in England and abroad
  • Working with National team sports
  • Two current therapists with the F.A.S.T. team
  • Higher Education lecturing posts

Desirable criteria for placement opportunity

  • Currently studying for a BSc (Hons) or MSc in Sports Therapy or equivalent
  • Student member of the Society of Sports Therapist or equivalent governing body
  • Valid insurance documentation 
  • Valid first aid certificate 
  • Excellent time management and communication skills
  • Positive attitude with a desire to always improve

What the placement will involve

1. A variety of observational and hands-on experiences based around the confidence and competency of the successful candidate

2. Opportunities include, but are not limited, to observational hours in the clinic, working with professional athletes from a multitude of sports, working with teams on a weekly basis, and pitch-side first aid for rugby, hockey and netball

3. Close links with several teams including hands-on experiences with Anglia Ruskin Basketball Club, Cambridge United Football Club and the Cambridge University Athletics and Cross Country Teams

4. Monthly CPD presentations

5. A flexible approach to ensure we give the best platform to develop both clinically and personally throughout the year

Please note

We can sometimes accommodate final year degree students looking for shorter term placement hours. Unfortunately we are not in a position to currently accept students who are studying for their GCSEs, A-Levels or BTEC.
