Highly Specialised MSK Physiotherapist in the NHS for over 10 years

Experience
Emma is a highly experienced physiotherapist having practiced for over 18 years. She has a huge breadth of experience across different areas of physiotherapy but has been a Senior clinician specialising in musculoskeletal (MSK) physiotherapy for over 12 years. This has included working in acute and rehabilitation hospitals in Cardiff, working with youth football academies at Swansea City and Cardiff City Association Football clubs, working in outpatient clinics at Hinchingbrooke and Peterborough City Hospital and private physiotherapy clinics.
Emma currently has a split role in her NHS job including being a Highly Specialist MSK rehabilitation physiotherapist and an MSK First Contact Practitioner working in a GP practice placing her at the forefront of care. This allows her to assess, diagnose, and manage patients without the need for a GP referral. Diagnosis is therefore a specialist area with her high level of clinical reasoning.
Sport
Emma (AKA Griff) brings a strong sporting background to her clinical work.
She is an ex-international hockey player with her highest achievement being playing in the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, 2010. She has achieved over 50 caps playing for the Wales Senior international squad over 8 years. She was part of the team to win Bronze in Rome 2009 to qualify for the Commonwealth Games for the first time in 12 years.
Emma won Gold as part of the Under 21s team in the European Championships in Swansea in 2004 promoting the squad to the A division for the first time ever.
She captained Wales Under 16’s and played for Wales Under 18’s also.
She has played National League Hockey for almost 20 years. She played in the premier league for 9 years at Clifton Ladies Hockey Club and has played for Cambridge City Hockey Club since 2015 including being Vice Captain for the 1st XI.
Emma returned to international hockey in 2023 through Masters Hockey and has played in the Home Nations for Wales Over 35’s in 2024 and 2025.
In addition, Emma is an ex-international football player in which her highest achievement was playing in the U19 UEFA Championships in Helsinki, Finland in 2002.
Having played at an elite level most of her sporting career, Emma understands the pressures that can come with this environment.
